Will Delta-8 Help Me Sleep?

Many of us have issues when trying to get a good night’s sleep. Studies have shown that as many as one in four Americans have a sleep issue of some sort. Some of us have trouble falling asleep, while others fall asleep just fine but wake up after four hours and have trouble getting back to sleep. The stress of work and daily life and other factors can play their part in interfering with the much-needed rest we all require.

Many Americans turn to over-the-counter or even prescription sleep aids. Unfortunately, these remedies may be habit-forming and could have side effects. Some of these remedies also leave the user feeling groggy and fuzzy-headed in the morning. So as more and more people turn to natural, holistic solutions for their sleep issues, and with the soaring popularity of Delta 8 THC, the question of whether or not Delta 8 THC will help you sleep is an obvious one to ask.

What We Know about Delta 8 THC and Sleep

Unfortunately, even though Delta 8 THC products have become wildly popular since they were introduced to the wellness market, Delta 8 THC is a recently discovered cannabinoid. Therefore, not much clinical research has been done. So we have to rely on a combination of what we know and anecdotal evidence to determine if we want to use these products.

We know that Delta 8 THC binds twice with cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system. Now, these same receptors regulate things like mental activity, heart rate, and breath, so they play a role in the process of winding down at the end of the day and sleeping. Because Delta 8 THC binds so well with these receptors, we know it can impact how effectively they perform their job.

We also know that Delta 8 THC affects the user differently from Delta 9 THC, which is found in large quantities in marijuana. Delta 8 has been reported to have less of a psychotropic effect than Delta 9. It gives the user an overall feeling of relaxation and wellness throughout the body. So it’s safe to assume that a more relaxed feeling throughout the body may help one fall asleep and stay asleep. And although there is much less of an intoxicating effect with Delta 8 than with Delta 9, Delta 8 THC does still give the user a feeling of being high, which comes in handy when you’re trying to unwind at the end of a busy day.

When to Take Delta 8 THC for Sleep

If you would like to try taking Delta 8 THC to help you sleep, you need to know how much, what delivery method, and when to take your dose for sleep. The amount you take, how you take it, and when are impacted by several factors. With that in mind, we have some suggestions.

First, determine which delivery method is suitable for you. If you are having trouble falling asleep, you may want to use a vape, smoke, or possibly a tincture form of Delta 8 THC. These provide a faster onset of the relaxing effects of Delta 8. If you have no problem falling asleep but are restless or wake up during the night, you may want to utilize an edible or capsule form of Delta 8 THC. Because they go through your digestive tract, these delivery methods take a couple of hours to kick in, but the results last for a much longer time than with vaping or smoking – usually as long as six hours or more.

Second, experiment with your Delta 8 THC dosage. This is especially true if you are just beginning to use Delta 8 THC. Your weight, body composition, and the strength of the Delta 8 you are taking all play a part in its effect on you. Every person’s body is different, so what works for one person will not work for another. Start with 5 to 15 milligrams of Delta 8 THC and see how that affects you. If after a few hours you don’t experience the full benefits, add another 5 milligrams. Repeat this pattern and work your way up until you find the dose that gives you a relaxed feeling throughout your body.

Third, time your dosage. The timing of your dose depends on the delivery method you choose and your reaction to the Delta 8 THC, so you may have to experiment a little. The idea is for you to time it so that the Delta 8 THC peaks at bedtime. If you are vaping or smoking, you can enjoy your Delta 8 THC from 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime. If you prefer to use an edible or capsule, you will want to take your dose about four hours before bed if you are using it to fall asleep. However, if you are using the edible to have a more restful night’s sleep, you should take it one or two hours before bed.
